Halifax County Commissioner Vernon Bryant this afternoon issued a statement, responding to criticisms by Halifax County NAACP President David Harvey during a rally supporting school merger Thursday.

In his two-sentence statement, Bryant simply said, “Election filings begin February, 2014. If Mr. David Harvey believes that he can serve the citizens of Halifax County better than myself, then I encourage him to file as a candidate for the board of Commissioners for Halifax County.”
Harvey targeted both Bryant and Commissioner Rives Manning for their unwavering opposition to merger during the rally, which was sponsored by the Coalition for Education and Economic Security.
Speakers during the rally challenged the audience to oust both Bryant and Manning.
Manning is expected to also release a statement.
